Today I provide two interpretations of the view to the east from Tower Bridge. The first is a color hdr, the second a black and white interpretation made in the new Topaz B&W Effects 2.1.
I was in london for a day with my family and we decided to visit the Tower Bridge Exhibition. I wrote about this in a post last year.
Today's images are a view to the east from the East Walkway of the bridge. The designer's theory was that pedestrians would climb up the stairs to cross the bridge on the walkways when the deck was elevated to allow tall ships to pass underneath. Personally I think I'd have retired to a pub to wait for the decks to be lowered once more.
If you take the tour, you'll notice there are small open windows along the elevated walkways that an adult can place the lens of their camera through to get a reflection free image. Holding the camera tight against the frame can add stability. The windows are too high up for younger or wheelchair bound photographers, unfortunately.
Both photos are formed from a three-image hdr using Photomatix but my exif data says the separation between each image was only 1EV. Despite being hand-held the shot is clear enough to read the Citi and HSBC logos on their Canary Wharf towers. Indeed, I hadn't noticed until I processed the images that I was seeing the O2 arena in the space between the distant high-rises.
