Daily Photo – The Alfalfa Field

Alfalfa usually has the highest feeding value of all the common hay and is most often used as feed for dairy cows because of its mix of high protein and highly digestible fiber. This alfalfa cost our client more in damages than the fields even though it was less than an eighth of the survey area where the corn fields were about three quarters of the survey area.

The reason this cost more was that the timing of our survey prevented the farmer from harvesting this crop and planting the next. He would typically get six per year.

The lady in this photo is the client rep, sent down from the Johannesburg office to agree damages with the farmer.
