Daily Photo – Everglades 7

So this is what we were searching for in the clump of in the photos Everglades 5 and Everglades 6. I'm not an ornithologist so I'm not going to make an attempt to say what types of birds these are. Birds is good enough for me. The behavior of the bird with it's spread out is common among birds that lack sufficient waxiness to their feathers. Most birds have a waxy feather that shrugs off allowing the bird to dive into the , then out an repeat the manoeuvre over again. But birds that lack that waxiness to their feathers have to spread their to dry in the . And that's what this bird is doing here. With its back to the , it has spread its fully. It is keeping a watch on us, though, as you can see if you click on the image to enlarge it.
