So one last photo of a karst limestone island from Phang Nga bay and then off to new locations. Well, two actually, a black-and-white and a color rendering of the island.
This one just appears to be a solid pillar or rock – there were no obvious caves and the whole thing wasn't much longer than it was wide. When seen like this the formations are truly curious.
There's a more famous one from the James Bond ‘Man with the Golden Gun' movie close by this one that is narrower at the base and wider at the top. Writing that reminds me of a Monty Python sketch where one of the characters is describing an elephant!
It is quite incredible to consider the amount of material that has been dissolved away over geologic time to leave pillars like this standing free. And that all the trees clinging to the cliffs would have started their lives like the flower I posted a few days back.
