Cows in a river. I tried to think of a bunch of different titles around some pastoral themes but kept coming back to the central element of these seven cows standing in a river.
This shot was made possible by having my camera with me as I was driving my mother around the texas countryside. Taking some back roads around the farmland to the south west of houston, I was heading down FM 102 and was just about two miles from Wharton when I saw this scene off to my left.
I quickly pulled the car over and we walked back a short distance so I could frame the shots I wanted. A few days earlier we'd had some significant rain so I'm thinking this stream is usually not as high (the fact that the tree on the left is submerged is one strong clue).
One of the cows is adventurously sampling the tree while the others seem to be waiting for her opinion. Is it better than the grass? Does it taste like chicken? Why are we standing in this river?
