Daily Photo – Everglades 4

The part of the Everglades we were exploring is the Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area-Water Conservation Area 3B, according to Google Maps. Not the most romantic name. This corner of the everglades is mostly but there are a few islands dotted here and there that stand a few feet higher than the surrounding land. According to my guide from Everglades Airboat Charters the water was a foot or so higher than normal for this time of year owing to recent . The islands are where the deer hang out when the water's high so the are not permitted to get within 100 feet of them. I didn't see any deer but then the vegetation was pretty thick.

In the top left corner of the image there's a black speck. Is it a bird? Is is a plane? Is it a piece of dust? It's a plane recently airborne out of Miami International Airport. I toyed with the idea of cloning it out but decided not to in the end.
