So this is what we were searching for in the clump of trees in the photos Everglades 5 and Everglades 6. I'm not an ornithologist so I'm not going to make an attempt to say what types of birds these are. birds is good enough for me. The behavior of the bird with it's wings spread out is common among birds that lack sufficient waxiness to their feathers. Most water birds have a waxy feather that shrugs off water allowing the bird to dive into the water, then fly out an repeat the manoeuvre over again. But birds that lack that waxiness to their feathers have to spread their wings to dry in the sun. And that's what this bird is doing here. With its back to the sun, it has spread its wings fully. It is keeping a watch on us, though, as you can see if you click on the image to enlarge it.
