So this is what we were searching for in the clump of trees in the photos Everglades 5 and Everglades 6. I'm not an ornithologist so I'm not going to make an attempt to say what types of these are. is good enough for me. The behavior of the bird with it's spread out is common among that lack sufficient waxiness to their feathers. Most water birds have a waxy feather that shrugs off water allowing the bird to dive into the water, then out an repeat the manoeuvre over again. But birds that lack that waxiness to their feathers have to spread their to in the . And that's what this bird is doing here. With its back to the , it has spread its fully. It is keeping a watch on us, though, as you can see if you click on the image to enlarge it.
