Daily Photo – The Biltmore Pool

The Biltmore Hotel is unique in the area with quite a fascinating history. Conceived in 1924 it was designed by the same team that designed Grand Central Terminal in New York . In the 1920's and 30's it was extremely fashionable to stay there. Then, in 1942 it was converted by the War Department into a hospital and it remained as such through the late 1960's. The of Coral Gables was granted ownership in 1973 but let it idle for ten years before initiating a restoration in 1983. The hotel re-opened in 1987 but closed three years later in the economic downturn. It was acquired by Seaway Hotels in 1992 and the company has since restored it to world class excellence (their words, not mine).
