Of course, if you're in Cleveland you have to pay a visit to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
The building is down on the shores of Lake Erie, close by the Cleveland Browns stadium. The I.M Pei designed structure looks kind of normal from the front, but walk around back and you can see how out of the ordinary the structure really is.
The rock and Roll Hall of Fame and museum was located in Cleveland ostensibly because DJ Alan Freed coined the term ‘rock and Roll' during his radio years with WJW-Radio in the city and because he helped organize the Moondog Coronation Ball on March 21, 1952 in the city, generally held as the first rock and roll concert. Others think it was really the $65million of public money that the city put up that sealed the deal.
Like many museums, a few hours really isn't enough to do the place justice. It's just that being out in Cleveland, I'm sure the foot traffic is way below what they would get had it been sited in New York or Los Angeles.
The flip side (b-side?) of course is that there is no crush of people so you can actually get to grips with some of the exhibits rather than finding yourself being swept along by a sea of backpacking humanity with little interest in what's in front of their gaze as in say, the Uffizi in Florence or the Louvre in Paris.
