The ruins of Ashford Mill sit just south of Route 178 at the southern end of death valley in California and about 25 miles west of Shoshone. In the background of this shot are the Black Mountains; the road on the right leading back to Shoshone. The mill was built around 1914-15 (different web sites cite different dates) to process gold from the Ashford Mine about 5 miles to the east. The mine and mill had a checkered history and mining ceased in 1941.
This was taken on another run-and-gun from Las Vegas. It's about 120 miles and takes about two-and-a-half hours without stops. I stopped more than a few times! This shot was taken close to mid-day as you can tell from the shadows of the ruins. Again, if you don't have the luxury of time, you have to take what you can get.
There's not much to see at the mill other than these ruins and some other concrete structures.
