While we were out in the grasslands we could see numerous thunder storms rolling across the Everglades from east to west. It was quite breezy out there and I couldn't get a shutter speed high enough to freeze the motion of the sawgrass and still get some depth of field so I opted for aperture over speed. On the horizon in the middle of this shot is a clump of trees that we were heading for but first we had to watch where the storm beyond it was going. Sitting atop an aluminum airboat in a huge flat expanse of wetlands is certainly not one of the recommended behaviors in the Boy Scout handbook for what to do in a thunderstorm!
On the horizon on the right edge of the image is a radio mast. I could have cropped it out but decided to leave it in. This was one of the landmarks my Captain used to navigate these wetlands. Another prominent landmark was a cement plant. Find these landmarks and you pretty much know where you are.
