Last August we found ourselves in grand Rapids, MI. We'd intended to fly but Mother Nature had intervened, bringing an intense thunder storm over Chicago O'Hare airport and canceling the flights.
We had an appointment to keep, so we jumped the bus to the Hertz lot and rented a car. We only had one checked bag and we weren't able to retrieve that so we had to stop at a Target to pick up some overnight items, hoping our bag would catch up with us later, which it did.
I took this image from the eastern side of the grand River, just north of the Pearl street Bridge. I didn't have my tripod with me so to steady the camera I braced it on the railing alongside the footpath. I also didn't have an umbrella or rain jacket with me either so when the heavens opened about 30 minutes later, I got completely drenched trying to get back to my hotel. I should have just found a doorway and sheltered for the next 45 minutes or so.
Now I have the ‘My Radar‘ app on my iPhone (also available for Android and Windows phone) so I can gauge how long the rain will last and make a more informed decision on whether to run or shelter!
