So I don't know but I do assume that the building here is some sort of mill house on the banks of the Li River somewhere not too far from Guilin in China.

It looks to me as though this lady is doing her washing up in the river flowing past her door - Suzhou, China, 1991. Behind the tree with the flame-orange leaves, a neighbor looks on.
'A river runs through it' is what you can imagine happening to these houses if the river rises another six inches or so.
Most people I know tend to think of beach living as something glamorous - a get away from it all, carefree type of life. And I guess it can be if you have a wad of cash and no responsibilities.
