After a couple of hours, our boring diesel train pulled in to suzhou and we were taken by bus to a hotel by a lake. Taking a stroll that afternoon I took this shot of some locals fishing from a pier built out into the lake.
With the previous nights in a high-rise hotel in Nanking following several days in the wonderful city of Xi'an, the lakeside setting of this hotel came as a welcome rest. Despite the nearby industrialization, this location was truly a little slice of heaven.
I never photographed my rooms. Looking back that was probably a mistake, but I remember most of the rooms to be relatively simple. And it you're one one of those “We're in Shanghai so it must be Sunday” tours all you really need is a comfortable chair to lounge in and a comfortable bed to sleep in.
