Most people I know tend to think of beach living as something glamorous – a get away from it all, carefree type of life. And I guess it can be if you have a wad of cash and no responsibilities.
This house was on the beach somewhere near Puerta Galera in the Philippines. There's a cow wandering through the undergrowth and a pig slumbering across the path by the house. But the setting isn't exactly glamorous.
It looks more hard scrabble, more of an existence hard won That the house it on stilts suggests that sometimes the tide comes a tad further up the beach, though in this shot the tide looks to be out.
The lives led by the people here were a far cry from the lives of their countrymen in Manila. Of course, pretty much every family I spoke to had one or more family members working in Manila but here on Mindoro life moved at a much slower pace. Ant this was the part of Mindoro closest to Manila. I can only guess at how life slows down the further you get from the ferry landing.
