It's not just floats and marching bands that make up a parade. There are all manner of other entities that parade also.
This Buffalo Soldier was riding with his colleagues in the leading units of the Krewe of Pontchartrain parade in 2009.
Although originally members of the U.S 10th Cavalry Regiment the nickname Buffalo Soldiers was later given to all the African-American regiments formed in 1866. This trooper carries the standard of the 9th Cavalry Regiment.
The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum is located at 1834, Southmore Blvd, Houston, texas 77004. Yet another Houston attraction I've yet to visit, despite having lived here for over 15 years!
