Daily Photo – Bultfontein Camp

Here's a wider view of the same sunrise as in yesterday's photo. It shows our camp site at Bultfontein.

When I first arrived about a year earlier the crew and camping was new and far less structured but as we got used to the dynamic, our orderliness improved considerably. Thankfully, Bultfontein was a dry camp.

On the left we have the mechanic's area and electronics workshop, to the right the senior staff camp and business offices and in the background, the labor camp.

Not only was this the camp where the swan neck broke, but it sticks in my mind for the day we moved out. On that day, I hitched up my office trailer to the I'd been assigned and went to check that the tail lights were working. They were not so I reported that to the chief mechanic, Harvey.

Harvey called over his assistant, Jacob, and asked him if he'd tested the lights the day before. Jacob replied, ‘Yes I did, and they weren't working then either'.

Such an honest response to an inadequate task direction, all we could do was laugh about it.
