This scene of three Chinese farm workers burdened with produce on baskets suspended from yokes would be timeless but for their clothes.
I can imagine this scene being repeated day after day, week after week, year after year. Here they're not even using the tractors that were ubiquitous elsewhere – perhaps the trail they are walking is too narrow.
In the background there's the bamboo skeleton of some form of shelter, the roof in a state of disrepair.
The foreground is a patchwork of enclosed fields that seem designed to capture and hold water. A few years later I would encounter a similar structure of small fields surrounded by earth berms in Tunisia, there certainly designed to capture and hold the rain for the benefit of their olive trees.
