Perhaps a contrast from my image yesterday of an Endymion Flambeau, here is an image taken around the same time of an endymion Officer.
The parades never fail to bring a range of rich, saturated colors and the costumes are always spectacular. In this image, an officer of the endymion krewe heads towards his horse having secured some prized Endymion footballs for his sons. He holds their hands tightly – it can be easy to become separated in the mass of people. When riding he would be wearing his facemask to conceal his identity.
I particularly like the way the son on the right of the photo (his left) is in lock-step with him while the son on the left of the photo (his right) is in anti-step.
If you look closely you'll notice that the helmet has been adapted from a us Army or police SWAT helmet – painted gold, bejeweled (bedazzled?) with a plume added to match the cloak, vest and pants. While the parades are fun to watch and I'm sure are fun to participate in as a rider, they're also serious business for the krewe members.
You can read more on the history of the Endymion krewe here.
