Showing your kids the ropes is a staple of the family business, but perhaps this guy is taking the concept a tad too far.
I mean, fathers have long taught sons how to fish, but not usually while they are still in diapers/nappies.
Health and Safety were probably still asleep when I took this photo near Puerta Galera in the philippines. Much as kids love the water, I know I wouldn't have done the same with me son (I'd probably did things with my son at this age that this fisherman would have thought idiotic from his perspective – we all do daft things from time to time). I used to take my son to swim lessons from the age of about 9 months (and my daughter too). I noticed that the dads let go of their kids way more frequently and for longer than the moms and I was no different in ‘encouraging' my kids to figure out that mouth and nose out of water was good, mouth and nose under water, not so much.
But I'm figuring this isn't the baby's first rodeo. Neither father nor son is wearing any sort of buoyancy aid. And my recollection of wet diapers were that they were heavy so if this kid fell in his diaper would act more as an anchor than a float.
I took this photo back in 1990. That means, assuming he didn't fall overboard and drown, he'd be about 24 now. Maybe he also fishes now. Maybe he even takes his own son out on his boat. Somehow, I kind of hope he does.
