Fine: $150. OK so that was Singapore Dollars in 1989 but that was still about $75 US! This sign was in the restroom of a bar in Chinatown, Singapore. Talking with the locals, it was aimed at the older generation of locals who had grown up without flush toilets. But the sign was in English! I kept wondering who was tasked with enforcement while feeling glad it wasn't me! Certainly no-one darted into the restroom after I left to check on me. A hollow warning, then? Probably not because flushing of toilets was mandatory by law at the time (and may still be for all I know). It was only two or so years after this that Singapore enacted it's ban on chewing gum.
The more valuable information of mosquitoes and haemmorrhagic fever was presented in both English and chinese, but clearly from a public health viewpoint, unflushed toilets were the greater hazard.
