Harbour Town, yes, it's in the United States and yes, its spelled with a ‘u'. In other words, the meta data I keyed into this image is wrong as I naturally assumed it would be spelled Harbor, without a ‘u'.
Harbour Town is a marina/shopping/restaurant area of the Sea Pines zone on Calibogue Sound at the southern end of Hilton Head island, south carolina. According to their website, the lighthouse was the first privately financed lighthouse built in the USA since the early 1800's.
You can climb up the 90-foot tower to be rewarded with great views over the marina and the surrounding lowland islands and sounds and there's also a shop at the top. It's billed as a ‘wonderful shopping experience'. I'll let you judge for yourself if you go. I've long found shopping (for anything other than camera gear) to be a chore rather than an experience.
I was there at the start of the ‘season', late April, so the roads were not overwhelmed and the various locales were not over-crowded, but then not all the restaurants were open and many of those that were, closed early. I can imagine if you're not into crowds and traffic jams that high season is not for you – but I hear the golfing on the island is excellent!
