My last photo was of a green lady. Today's is of a man in green. I've titled it ‘Hey You!' because of the two characters in the background.
I was looking a the photo of ‘Tank Man' the other day and that reminded me that I spent two weeks in China in 1991. It was one of those, ‘If it's Wednesday then this is Xian' type tours run by Kuoni. It remains the only ‘package holiday' I've ever taken and it was very well organized and just ran like clockwork. Had I tried to travel on my own in China at this time I would have seen but a fraction of what I was able to see. And, even though it was a group tour, I faced no problems rising early and getting photos before the official tour activities started, nor during the activities. So, Thank You, Kuoni!
Despite my camera, my subject remains rigid at attention, the tip of his middle finger resting on the yellow stripe on his trousers. The uniform could use an iron but top marks to this guy!
The two gents in the background – is the dude in mufti a plain clothes policeman? – have clearly seen my camera. I've no idea what their gesture was intended to serve. They never came over and my guide didn't stop me taking photos so maybe it was just that I was so much younger than the others in my group?
Their looks remind me of the similar looks I was getting from the performer and from the audience members at the street theater in penang a few years earlier.
