As you walk around a bend in the trail on your way of of Deer Cave, you're presented with this profile of Abraham Lincoln.
It only exists on one angle and as you get closer to the exit the profile dissolves into the mass of jagged rocks at the cave entrance. The rocky outcrops that form this profile do not all occur on one plane which is why you can't see it from close up. It's only the massive contrast between the dark of the cave and the brightness of the world outside the cavern that renders this profile.
The image below is actually a composite of two slides, one exposed for the profile and the other for the jungle outside. Of course, I had no idea when I took these images back in 1989 that I'd one day be combining them into one on a computer.
