Daily Photo – Line Truck Descending a Dune

This AWD Bedford Line Truck was one of two we had on the crew for moving people and gear. Like an army truck, there were benches running the length of the truck, but ours were on the outside facing in. This maximized the capacity for hauling gear when not hauling people.

Ideally the driver should be heading straight down the slope, not running across it at an angle as he is. The bow- of in front on the wheels suggest he's also riding the brake and sliding down with the . Not ideal but OK unless the back of the truck starts to slips sideways. Were that to happen, the driver would have to steer more directly down-slope and accelerate to prevent the truck from tipping over.

In my career I saw way too many rolled Rovers and Toyota 4-Runners but I don't recall we ever rolled a truck.

The relative absence of tracks and footprints tell me this is the front crew, laying out the cables and geophones. Back crew would have had a harder time crossing this terrain as was always softer where it had previously been disturbed.
