There's a couple of things I find amusing about the ‘No Drawing' sign at the Stele Pavilion at the Ming Dynasty Tombs outside Beijing.
I don't know if the sign is still there – this photo was taken in 1991.
So amusing number 1, is why ‘No Drawing'? What's so bad about drawing? Photography doesn't seem to be a problem.
Amusing number 2, is the complexity of the chinese characters that are being translated here as ‘No Drawing'. It makes me wonder whether the sign really says ‘No Drawing' or something else that might explain why.
But then that's the thing with most signs like this. They're like “Do not walk on the grass” signs. There's never a ‘why' to explain the reason for the sign. Just this command from ‘them'.
