‘Throw me something, mister!' is the cry you'll hear most often as the floats in the parades roll by. And it's not all young women revealing themselves. In fact, that generally doesn't happen. Maybe among the drunken crowd in the french quarter, but not out along the majority of the parade route. So if that sort of behavior concerns you, just stay out of the Quarter, especially after dark, and you'll be fine.
As I've mentioned before, mardi gras is a great family occasion. This image exemplifies that. While for the most part the riders throw their beads, doubloons, cups and other swag to the crowd, they also look out for the kids and the riders try their best to hand the swag to the kids. Note though, that a young girl is going to get a bunch of plush toys and generally come away with a greater haul of treasure than a young boy. At least, that's my experience.
