My wife and I were discussing visiting my family in england over the summer. We go at around the same time every year – July 4th.
One huge advantage of visiting at that time of year is that while our US school semester has finished, UK schools are still holding classes so we find it easier to get around. Some schools tend to run more field trips at this time of year so some attractions can be overloaded with kids but their day is typically shorter than ours.
A couple of years back we stayed over near Windsor so our kids could explore Legoland. On one of the days we didn't go to legoland we took a cruise on the river Thames. Coming back later in the afternoon we were presented with this view of Windsor Castle from the river. You can tell the Queen is not at home because the royal Standard is not flying above the Round Tower.
