Sometimes a sign is too good to pass up. When I passed the ‘death valley Health Center' sign in Shoshone I just had to pull over and capture an image. It reminded me of a sign I once saw in Bennington, Vermont (I've yet to scan that one so will save it for a future post). I think it was the juxtaposition of the phrases ‘death valley' and ‘Health Center' that struck me as somewhat ironic. The name of the valley already foreshadows the outcome so why bother? And then you see the engaging logo and the Spanish ‘Clinica Sierra Vista' – Mountain Range View Clinic. That's a place I'd go to, at least there'd be something to look at through the waiting room windows. death valley Health Center? Hmmmmmm, I'll give that one a miss. English may have twice as many words (in the dictionary) as Spanish but we don't always take advantage of that advantage.
