Five years ago this morning, hurricane Katrina made landfall near the Louisiana-Mississippi border as at Category 3 with sustained winds at 120 mph. With my wife's family hailing from new orleans, hurricane Katrina changed all of our lives in ways we never anticipated.
These photos were take on May 28, 2006, some eight months after the storm. Most of these were taken in the 9th Ward, just a few blocks from the breach in the walls of the Industrial Canal. Whole houses were swept away as the water rushed in, cars and boats swept away also. I simply cannot imagine how frightening that experience must have been.
